Two workers injured at UPM Fray Bentos

Two workers were injured in the pulp plant UPM Fray Bentosin the department of Black riverwhile they were carrying out maintenance tasks within the framework of the technical stoppage that has been going on since Sunday the 14th.

In these general maintenance stops, which take place every 18 months, the additional work of between 2,000 and 2,800 workers from subcontracted companies is required to condition the facilities.

From the Finnish multinational, they confirmed the accidents of the two workers belonging to the subcontracted companies, but for the moment they will not issue an official statement.

One of the workers, 32 years old, is interned at CTI after suffering a deep cut and skull fracture, caused by a blade from the wing of the disc that transforms the logs into chips.

The other worker was working in the evaporation zone when the accident occurred. accidentas a result of which he suffered a cut on one of his feet due to a high-pressure wash.

Last Friday there was a peak entry of 2,810 workers, while an average of 2,200 workers enter daily, who work seasonally. Of the total workers, 86% are Uruguayan workers, and of these, 62% are from that region of the country.

A year marked by several accidents

In January, UPM had to pay the Uruguayan State about 182,000 dollars after the Ministry of Environment (MA) will be fined for the caustic soda spill in the Sauce (Durazno) stream.
