Slump in sales and profits at AMAG

Compared to the first quarter of the previous year, sales fell by 17 percent to 335.8 million euros, and the net result halved to 13.3 million euros, as the company announced on Wednesday. Compared to the final quarter of 2023, the result was already significantly better, it was said.

“The order situation has improved somewhat, although some industries are showing restraint, as expected,” said CEO Helmut Kaufmann, according to the statement. “We will continue to use our broad positioning and high product diversity and react flexibly to the market environment with our international customer structure.”

Low aluminum price

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell by almost a third to 42.4 million euros in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. EBITDA of between 150 and 180 million euros is expected for the full year.

In the first three months of this year, Austria Metall AG was not only affected by the low price of aluminum; sales volume also fell from 110,400 tons in the first quarter of the previous year to 104,200 tons.

The cash flow from operating activities was unchanged from the previous year at 35.6 million euros. Taking into account the cash flow from investing activities, free cash flow of 9.6 million euros was generated.

Net financial debt improved to 356.7 million euros as of March 31, 2024 (December 31, 2023: 364.3 million euros), the gearing ratio is 46.4 percent. Since the beginning of the year, liquidity has increased from 168.9 million to 178.2 million euros.
