After the 2-1 home win against Altach, a huge burden fell off the shoulders of the FC Blau-Weiß Linz players: four rounds before the end of the season, the Linzers extended their lead in the Bundesliga to bottom team Austria Lustenau to eight points – it It would take a small football miracle for Vorarlberg to intercept coach Gerald Scheiblehner’s team once again. “It was a huge step, Lustenau has to deliver now,” cheered BW coach Scheiblehner after the final whistle.
After a weak first half, the 47-year-old had one man in particular to thank: striker Ronivaldo, who overturned the 0-1 half-time deficit with two goals. Of all people, the 35-year-old, who was behind his form until the Altach double. “Roni is our most important player in the offensive. That’s why we had such a hard time after his injury break, because he simply wasn’t physically fit enough for the Bundesliga.”
Scheiblehner recently took the Brazilian to his side – with success: “He’s a very sensitive player, even if he’s already 35. We had a really good conversation last time. I gave him responsibility and gave him another one I expressed the trust. I’m happy because he’s a really good guy.”

After goals eight and nine from the blue and white striker, relegation is within reach. “We’ve taken a big step, but it’s not over yet. We haven’t celebrated a victory for a long time. The celebration in the dressing room was very special,” says Ronivaldo, who took on the role of whip in the team circle after the final whistle. “That was funny, but nobody understood him,” says Scheiblehner with a smile.
When does Ronivaldo extend?
However, he remained calm during the decisive penalty in the 88th minute: “Of course it’s pressure, but please, I’m 35 years old. I love this moment,” says Ronivaldo, who always believed that he could turn the game around after the equalizer to be able to: “After the first goal I thought: I still have a chance.” He was right – and with his penalty goal he scored Blue-White’s first win after 13 games without complete success.
Goals that once again underlined how important he still is for Blue and White despite his age. Which is why the main question arises: When will Linz finally extend the contract with Ronivaldo? The native Brazilian takes it easy – and made a clear commitment to blue and white after the final whistle: “I understand the club’s situation that they want to wait a little longer until all decisions are made. Sports director Christoph Schösswendter and my advisor are in discussions . Of course I want to stay here and play in the Bundesliga with Blue and White next season.”
Another season in the upper house could be secured on Saturday in the away game at Wolfsberg. At least yesterday, the important win against Altach was still savored: the team approached Coach Scheiblehner after the game to postpone yesterday’s training two hours later. Scheiblehner: “I fulfilled the boys’ wish. Such victories can also be celebrated. It was a special day for blue and white.”
Especially since both the players and the coach were really challenged mentally recently. “In such a situation there is no way out, there is only this issue everywhere.” Hopefully not for long – Blue and White is well on the way to that…
