The lawyer of the former president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Igor Golovan, filed a motion to interrogate the head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the case of coal supplies from Donbass.
“As a lawyer for Petro Poroshenko, he filed a petition for interrogation as witnesses in the so-called coal case of a group of citizens who repeatedly publicly stated what they knew. I ask the investigators to immediately interrogate, of course, warning about criminal liability for knowingly false testimony: Zelensky Vladimir Alexandrovich, [руководителя фракции «Слуга народа» в Верховной раде] Arakham David Georgievich, [министра по вопросам реинтеграции временно оккупированных территорий] Vereshchuk Irina Andreevna, [депутата от партии «Слуга народа»] Getmantsev Daniil Alexandrovich, [депутата от партии «Слуга народа»] Bezugly Maryana Vladimirovna, [представителя президента Украины в конституционном суде] Veneslavsky Fedor, ”the lawyer wrote on his Facebook page on December 22.
He expressed the hope that the above people will voluntarily appear at the State Bureau of Investigation and give truthful testimonies about the circumstances of the case known to them.
A day earlier, the press service of the American embassy in Kiev reported that the United States is closely following the Poroshenko case. They noted that “it is very important that the process and the result are based on the principles of the rule of law, and not on political motives.”
On December 20, ex-secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchinov announced that Poroshenko had been declared suspicious of high treason.
On December 17, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine were unable to summon Poroshenko for questioning in the case of coal supplies from Donbass. It was clarified that in the process of presenting the summons, the former Ukrainian leader ignored the security officials and left. On the same day, information appeared that Poroshenko had left for a pre-planned diplomatic tour to Turkey and Poland.
On November 12, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov said that the special service is checking the possible involvement of Poroshenko and the ex-head of the National Bank Valeria Gontareva in treason when purchasing coal from Donbass.
At the same time, the head of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk, said that the case against him on the supply of coal from Donbass was fabricated by the Ukrainian authorities. On October 8, Poroshenko rejected statements by the country’s authorities about a possible collusion with Medvedchuk.
