Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev is leaving office. On December 22, he sent a letter of resignation to the parliament of the republic.
“The results of the last elections, despite the municipal level, had both national and political weight for the political moment in which the country was located. Under the current conditions, for me as prime minister, because of my political views, it would be an irresponsible and unjustified step before my people and my country to personally continue to lead the government on the Euro-Atlantic path, “the local 24 Vesti TV channel quoted Zayev as saying.
North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski supported the republic’s prime minister during his annual speech. He stressed that politics is a part of life and should never become the whole of life.
Earlier, on December 16, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia transferred the powers of the leader of the ruling Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDU) party to the country’s Deputy Finance Minister Dimitar Kovachevski.
A month earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of North Macedonia said that the country had officially completed the process of military integration into the structure of NATO forces by signing a joint declaration. On March 27, 2020, North Macedonia officially became the 30th member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
