Austria’s national team lost the test in Garmisch.

Austria’s national ice hockey team lost the first of two World Cup test matches against Germany after a good performance. The ÖEHV selection lost to the vice world champions 2:4 (1:2, 1:0, 0:2) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The red-white-red team made up for an early 0-2 deficit, but conceded two more goals in the finish.

On Saturday (4:15 p.m./live ORF Sport +) the return game will take place in Zell/See, in which team boss Roger Bader will have top-class reinforcement available for the first time in the form of around a dozen players from the two ICE finalists Salzburg and KAC.

Austria, with David Kickert in goal, started well and had their first big chance through Dominic Zwerger (7th), but unfortunately fell behind. A shot from Marc Michaelis would have gone wide, but hit Nico Brunner’s foot, from which the puck bounced into the goal (8th). After an unnecessary loss of targets behind the goal, Michaelis increased the score to 2-0 (11th).

But Roger Bader’s team overcame the two setbacks and scored the next goal through Benjamin Baumgartner, who used his own rebound (16th). In a pressure phase towards the end of the middle third, the ÖEHV team rewarded itself with the equalizer through Lukas Kainz (38th), who shot straight after a Heinrich pass.

The Austrians carried their momentum into the final third, with a shot from Brunner hitting the crossbar (42′). After that, the hosts got stronger again and managed to win thanks to Daniel Fischbuch (50th) and Parker Tuomie (52nd/PP).
