A 31-year-old from the Braunau district drove his car on Altheimer Strasse from Altheim towards St. Peter am Hart at around 10.30 p.m. In front of him was a 29-year-old, also from the Braunau district. In the municipality of St. Peter, a 26-year-old Romanian woman driving in a column towards Altheim started an overtaking maneuver with her car.

In doing so, she overlooked the 29-year-old’s oncoming vehicle. To avoid a collision, the man wrecked his car and fell down the embankment to the right of the lane. The 31-year-old driving behind him could no longer avoid the oncoming car and collided with it head-on. Due to the force of the impact, both vehicles were thrown from the road and came to rest in the area of the embankment or an adjacent field.

The 31-year-old man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene of the accident. The 29-year-old was taken to the Braunau hospital with minor injuries. The 26-year-old and her 42-year-old Romanian passenger were injured to an indefinite degree and were also admitted to the Braunau hospital.
