JKU Astros showed full commitment in their football home opener
800 fans cheered on the players.

It was cold, it was wet, but things were hot on the field: On Wednesday, the JKU football team “Astros” competed in their home opener against the “Serpents” from MedUni Vienna at the ASKÖ Movement Center in Linz. Although the Linz team showed full commitment, they ultimately had to admit defeat 2:9.

800 fans came to the first match of the season to cheer on the teams – including Rector Stefan Koch and Anke Merkl, head of operations management at the JKU.

Although Linz came within three yards of the opposing end zone in the first attack sequence, there were no points. In return, a long pass followed by a great run was enough for the only touchdown in the entire game.

The Astros don’t let their motivation be taken away: They are concentrating on training for the next home game on May 3rd under the guidance of coaches Mike Süss, Carson Wittwer and Roman Niedermayr. Then they have the chance to strike back on the field in the match against “BOKU Beez”.
