The National Ports Administration (ANP) made a investment close to 10 million dollars to expedite the entry of cargo trucks to the Port of Montevideoafter signing a contract with construction companies for the supply of new electromechanical equipment for circulation and weighing.

This Thursday, the port authority sealed an agreement with the companies Construcciones e Instalaciones Electromecánicas Sociedad Anónima (Ciemsa) and CSI Ingenieros SA, for the supply, installation and operation of electromechanical equipment for weighing, circulation of merchandise and automated control software in entry and exit in cargo vehicles through the North Access.

The project will provide the ANP with about 16 scales, 8 of these for entry and the remaining 8 for exit, as well as a lane that will be available for oversized loads.

The objective set by the ANP is to expedite the entry of trucks to the Port of Montevideoa process that was previously reported to have delays by the Inter-Union of Professional Land Cargo Transport of Uruguay (ITPC).

The new software will allow the ANP to collect information from vehicles automatically and in relation to other State agencies, particularly with the National Customs Directoratewith which it will be decided which lane the truck should follow, which may be an express lane or require passing through a scanner or another type of manual control.
