Poroshenko did not appear for interrogation in the case of treason

Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko did not appear for interrogation at the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) in a criminal case of high treason. On December 23, his lawyer Ilya Novikov told reporters about it.

According to him, the politician has not yet returned to Ukraine.

“He will arrive, as promised, in the first half of January,” Novikov said.

The former Ukrainian leader is currently in Warsaw, where he left on December 18. The day before, he announced that he would return to his homeland in January.

The URB of Ukraine on December 20 announced the possible involvement of the ex-president in high treason. However, in the process of presenting the summons, the former Ukrainian leader ignored the security officials and left.

Poroshenko rejects all the charges brought forward and speaks of the political nature of the criminal case.

Ukrainian media reported that the former president of Ukraine is charged under two articles of the Criminal Code: “high treason” and “assistance to the activities of terrorist organizations.”

So, we are talking about the case of the purchase of coal from the Donbass. As the head of the central headquarters of the European Solidarity party, Alexander Turchinov, said on December 20, in 2014–2015, the country’s leadership was able to “ensure energy security” with the help of coal supplies.

However, the investigation believes that Poroshenko created a criminal group and conducted a whole special operation to disrupt the coal supplies from South Africa contracted in the fall of 2014. Because if coal came from South Africa, it would be impossible to buy it in Donbass, explained the lawyer Novikov.

On December 17, investigators of the State Security Service of Ukraine could not summon Poroshenko for interrogation in the case of coal supplies from Donbass. It was clarified that in the process of presenting the summons, the former Ukrainian leader ignored the security officials and left. On the same day, information appeared that Poroshenko had left for a pre-planned diplomatic tour to Turkey and Poland.
