The responsible environmental city councilor Thomas Rammerstorfer is now reacting to the dispute within the environmental commission of Welser waste recycling (WAV). Rammerstorfer considers the expulsion of moderator Helmut Retzl, whose consulting firm has accompanied the participation process since 1992, to be a mistake. The Welser Zeitung reported exclusively. WAV is 100 percent owned by Energie AG Umwelt Service.
Everyone at one table
Rammerstorfer emphasizes that it would only be possible to defuse the conflict if all those involved sat at the table at a special meeting: “The reason for Energie AG’s behavior is not clear to me yet. I not only consider the approach to be politically unwise, it does not correspond in any way to the environmental commission’s rules of procedure,” the Wels environmental councilor criticizes Energie AG’s approach.
The environmental commission is made up of residents and citizens who were selected based on the jury principle. Its members met several times a year to be informed about current events in the WAV. Now that’s over for now. “The commission worked with great success and was able to defuse the long-standing conflicts surrounding waste incineration,” says Rammerstorfer, praising the committee’s work.
The members of the environmental commission were informed by Retzl about the separation. Energie AG Umwelt Service announced a change in strategy to the participants several days later. Since the framework conditions and topics have changed since the commission was founded, they want to create a new format.

“The successful citizen participation model should of course continue, but in a form that is adapted to the times,” said Energie-AG group communications yesterday. “Discussions will take place soon with the elected local representatives to discuss how to proceed.”
