ÖSV separates from unvaccinated assistant coach

“He made it clear to us that a Covid vaccination was out of the question for him. I respect this personal decision, but it is incompatible with the requirements as an ÖSV trainer, especially with a view to the Olympic Games in Beijing. We have each other therefore separated after a personal conversation on the best of terms “, explained ÖSV sports director Toni Giger in a press release on Thursday.

With Diethart we welcome a promising trainer with great potential. “As the winner of the Four Hills Tournament and Olympic medalist, he was one of our top athletes. Now he will pass on the experience he has gained to our ski jumpers.”

Diethart had sensationally won the Four Hills Tournament in 2013/14 and a little later was fourth in the individual and second with the team in Sochi. The native of Lower Austria began his coaching career soon after his career ended in April 2018. At junior stations in Tyrol and Germany, the failed comeback attempt in summer is now followed by promotion to assistant in the team of serial winner Sara Marita Kramer. “My comeback in summer was important for me in order to be able to really finish my ski jumping as an active person. It was also a learning process. I am already looking forward to working with Harald Rodlauer and the ski jumpers,” said Diethart.

Rodlauer regrets Moroder’s departure and is looking forward to his new assistant. “We have been friends for a long time and appreciate each other very much. Unfortunately, the situation is now the way it is, I fully understand that. I am all the more looking forward to working with Thomas Diethart.”
