The man had spilled petrol while refueling, soaking some of his clothing. According to current investigations, when the man sat down in his car after refueling, he may have lit a cigarette. His outer clothing caught fire, the Styria State Police Department said on Friday.

The man spilled a large amount of fuel at a gas pump at the gas station in Spital (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district). The combination of gasoline fumes from his clothing and an open flame when lighting the cigarette in the vehicle may have set the outer clothing on fire. A 25-year-old and a 21-year-old immediately provided first aid. The seriously injured person was flown to Vienna General Hospital by rescue helicopter. He couldn’t be questioned yet.
