One of the reasons for this is an increase in anti-Semitism in many countries. Jews from all over the world can settle in Israel, as the country sees itself as the protective power of the Jews. So far this year 27,050 new immigrants from all over the world have come to the country, including from Germany, a spokesman for the Jewish Agency responsible for immigration confirmed on Thursday. In the previous year, 21,820 new immigrants were counted. The Mediterranean country has about 9.4 million inhabitants.
Around 4,000 new immigrants came from the USA – the highest number since 1973. 3,500 Jews from France settled in Israel – more than in four years. Compared to the previous year, this was an increase of 40 percent. Other immigrants came from Russia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Argentina, South Africa, Great Britain, Brazil and Mexico.
Job prospects also lure to Israel
According to the information, it is mainly younger people who are drawn to Israel. 55 percent of the immigrants this year are younger than 35. Most of the newcomers (2870) have moved to the coastal metropolis Tel Aviv, followed by Jerusalem with 2760. More than 1100 of the new Israelis are doctors or other health care workers, 1670 come from the IT area. Immigration Minister Pnina Tamano-Shata spoke of an “unbelievable engine for growth”. The good public health system in Israel is also seen as a pull factor.
