A Linz original is celebrating a big birthday – and everyone was invited. In April 1924, Linz’s Mariendom was ceremoniously consecrated; 62 years earlier, the foundation stone had been laid for what was then the largest building project in Europe. The program certainly didn’t disappoint, as there was something for everyone.

Already on Saturday it was “Open Cathedral Day”, where visitors could not only enjoy live music but also experience several tours through the “birthday child”, during which he also revealed one or two secrets: for example, they were given the bishop’s dressing room, the crypt or the attic of the cathedral. Around 1,000 visitors did not miss this offer. “We wanted to give visitors the opportunity to experience the cathedral in a completely different way,” says Martina Noll from the Diocese of Linz.
