The large attic in the Meierhof of Schwertberg Castle has been a hub and “home base” for cultural initiatives in recent years. On Friday next week (7 p.m.) this tradition is set to get a new start after a seven-year cultural break: The freelance artist Markus Waltenberger and Rudolf Minarik are opening the “Kunsthalle Meierhof” and the newly founded “KukiUm” (art and cultural center) that evening. Initiative Unteres Mühlviertel) with a concert by the Salzburg Libertango Quartet.
“Reviving this venue, which is predestined for artistic activities, is a huge opportunity for the Lower Mühlviertel. We want to create a new, lively meeting place – not only for people from the region, but also for Linzers interested in culture,” says Markus Waltenberger, who took over the management of “KukiUm”.
The content of the initiative includes music events as well as art exhibitions, panel discussions on socially relevant topics, readings by local literary newcomers as well as seminars, lectures and painting and drawing courses. Waltenberger: “Many evenings at the Meierhof will be crossover projects combining several forms of artistic expression. Because every cultural encounter promotes the social dialogue that we so urgently need at the moment.”
The opening evening on May 10th also follows this principle: In addition to the Libertango concert, the audience can expect the exhibition “30 Years of Painting” by Markus Waltenberger as well as a bazaar corner with a look back at all of his early works on paper and cardboard.
In the months before the opening, Waltenberger and his deputy Minarik held numerous discussions with political decision-makers from all parties: “We have found great partners in the market town of Schwertberg and Mayor Max Oberleitner.” As an idealist in the best sense of the word, he has worked for years to create awareness of a neutral ground where art, culture and encounters can take place. Now the time has come to put these ideas into practice – including looking for sponsors from local companies. (live)
