The two men clashed in a pizzeria shortly after 10 a.m. The argument finally got out of control: The 47-year-old suddenly stabbed his opponent (44) several times with the screwdriver before three witnesses were able to separate the two. The 44-year-old was so seriously injured that he had to undergo emergency surgery in Ried Hospital.
The victim is currently being cared for in the intensive care unit, but his condition is stable, the police announced on Monday morning. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene and the murder weapon was seized.
The motive may have been financial disputes. The two men previously ran a pizzeria together, but the restaurant is now closed.
The police told the OÖN on Monday morning whether there had already been arguments or even fights between the perpetrator and his victim. If his health permits, the 44-year-old will be questioned about the incident later in the day.
