BRAUNAU. Karl Markovics has also been known internationally since his leading role as Salomon Sorowitsch in the Oscar-winning film “The Counterfeiters”. Of course, he was previously known to the Austrians as district inspector Stockinger in the crime series “Kommissar Rex”. The actor, screenwriter and director is coming to Braunau on Friday, May 3rd, for the memorial service for the victims of war and National Socialism. There he will give a speech at the memorial stone that stands in front of Hitler’s birthplace.
Every year, the municipality of Braunau, the Braunau Contemporary History Association and the Austrian Mauthausen Committee organize such a memorial hour. In addition to the warning speeches (this year, in addition to Markovics, SP Vice Mayor Wolfgang Grabner-Sittenthaler will also be speaking), a minute’s silence for all victims of war and National Socialism is also on the program. The democratic choir will once again provide music for the Mahnstein celebration this year.
