Mühlviertel Volleys remain in relegation in the second Bundesliga despite the win

The Mühlviertel Volleys dominated the 2nd women’s Bundesliga this year.

A 3-0 home win for the Bundesliga women against TUS Bad Radkersburg on Saturday evening concluded the most successful season to date in the short club history of the Mühlviertel Volleys. The Mühlviertler women won the relegation for promotion to the 1st Bundesliga ahead of the two first division teams Bisamberg/Hollabrunn and Purgstall.

Despite this impressive record, the Perger team will continue to compete in the second division next season. “After the basic round, we decided together with the team that if we made it through the sporting relegation, we would not be promoted to the first Bundesliga this year,” says sports director Josef Trauner.

Coach Lydia Trauner’s team’s season record is impressive. In the basic round, the basis for participation in the relegation for promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was laid with twelve wins and only four defeats. Another nine wins and only one defeat followed. Lydia Trauner: “We started this season to avoid relegation. We were able to bring four 15-year-old players up to the level of the 2nd Bundesliga. With this mix of young and experienced players, we have now formed a successful team we still have a lot planned for.”

Three top performers say goodbye

That means: Next year you want to get the polish you need to be ready for the first division. “The squad for the new season is almost complete. Unfortunately, three players from the successful squad, Paulina Surowka, Linda Burgstaller and Sarah Berger, will no longer be there,” says Josef Trauner. This trio contributed significantly to the team’s success this year. Trauner also thanks the club’s sponsors: “Without them, such successful club work would not be possible.”

Before the Mühlviertel Volleys finally go into the summer break, there is one more tournament highlight on the program in the Donauwell Arena: On the 11th/12th. In May, Austria’s best U14 boys’ teams will compete for the national championship title in Perg.
