Linz FP city councilor Michael Raml will go into the 2027 elections as the blue mayoral candidate. He announced this today at a press conference together with Deputy Governor Manfred Haimbuchner. The official reason for the announcement was Raml’s five-year anniversary in the city senate. But it was also about putting an end to the rumor mill that had been simmering for a long time. The 37-year-old lawyer was brought into play as a possible successor to club chairman Herwig Mahr.

The model is catfish
But as of today it is clear: Raml remains in city politics and lays claim to the executive chair. “I want to be mayor of my hometown Linz,” he says, “with passion and common sense.” The SPÖ had lost itself in supposed innovation and digitalization; he wanted to put the focus back on the needs of the people. Raml and Haimbuchner cite Wels, where there has been an FPÖ mayor, Andreas Rabl, since 2015, as a role model. Wels shows what an upswing a fresh wind of freedom can bring about. Only yesterday the election in Innsbruck proved that there is no leasehold.
Telemedicine and more police officers
Raml, who is responsible for safety and health in Linz, sees his greatest successes in expanding video surveillance, defusing the conflicts in the Volksgarten and developing a blackout strategy. In health, he mentions tripling funding for health prevention and implementing a health indicator. Raml is calling, among other things, for an expansion of telemedicine, more police officers for Linz and a completely new integration strategy. He wants to start with municipal social benefits and, for example, link access to the Active Pass to knowledge of German. Raml also wants to present suggestions in other subject areas, but these are still being developed together with experts.

Raml can imagine a referendum on green belts
Raml also comments on a current topic. It is well known that his FPÖ is against the planned rezoning of more than ten hectares of grassland in the university district. He could imagine the new digital university on the Post-City area next to the main train station. At least we should talk about it. Support comes from Linzplus parliamentary group leader Lorenz Potocnik after a referendum on the topic. However, Raml would also use the opportunity to inquire about other topics such as the integration strategy.
