The mayor of Maldonado turned a deaf ear to the neighbors’ complaints and the ministerial report that caused the works to be stopped.
Disregarding the request of the neighbors of his own apartment and dismissing the report of the Ministry of Environment about the impacts that the project would have Ocean Park, the mayor of Maldonado, Enrique Antía, praised the controversial real estate initiative of the Brazilian businessman, Alexander Grendene.

From the Ministry of Environment and an inspection by the Environment Directorate of the Municipality of Maldonado, it was confirmed that the works began, despite not having the corresponding authorization. Under the company name Megashop SA, fencing, earthmoving, deforestation and dune removal work was carried out, according to local residents.
