The Investigative Committee of Belarus opened criminal proceedings against six people for creating a terrorist organization and committing an act of terrorism. This was announced on Thursday, December 23, BelTA informs.
“Currently, six members of the criminal group have been identified and detained. A complex of operational-search measures is being carried out in relation to two of them with the aim of arresting them: (they – Ed.) Have left the territory of the Republic of Belarus, ”the message says.
It is noted that a criminal case has been initiated against the members of a criminal group under the article “Creation of an organization for carrying out terrorist activities or participation in it” of the Criminal Code, as well as four criminal cases under the article “An act of terrorism against a state or public figure.”
A day earlier, several people were detained in Belarus for attempting to commit terrorist attacks.
On December 6, it was reported that Minsk police detained five people on suspicion of attempting to commit a terrorist act. It was noted that the detainees could be involved in an attempt to set fire to one of the buildings of the Frunzenskiy district police department of Minsk in August 2021.
Prior to this, on October 18, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that during the constitutional referendum, a new attempt could be made to intensify the protests. Among the methods used by Western countries, he listed information technology and psychological warfare, which creates a negative image of power among the population. According to the president, a new attempt at revolution in the republic is possible.
