In the ministry’s “everything rinses” program, this corresponds to a positivity rate of 0.05 percent for 850,000 tests (previous week: 0.07 percent for 1 million tests). One school and 135 classes are currently closed, in the previous week there were two and 200 respectively.
Vienna. The highest number of cases among schoolchildren were also this time in Vienna with 248 (previous week: 610), plus ten cases among school staff. On the occasion of the upcoming Christmas holidays, Vienna’s City Councilor for Education and Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) thanked those who helped keep schools open despite the pandemic. “Despite sometimes high numbers of infections, we were able to break many chains of infection with our tried and tested PCR test system in schools in Vienna and thus prevent the virus from spreading further,” said a broadcast.
In the other federal states, too, the infections discovered via the school PCR tests decreased or stagnated: 70 cases were discovered in Styria (previous week: 124), in Upper Austria 66 (145), in Carinthia 47 (63), in Tyrol 43 (81), in Lower Austria 34 (98), in Salzburg 33 (30), in Vorarlberg 26 (44) and in Burgenland eleven (20).
The school starts all over Austria again on January 10th. The window day on the previous Friday (January 7th) was approved by ordinance.
