After mountaineers found a black backpack next to the normal route to the Erlakogel high above Gmunden on Sunday morning, the police are investigating. The hikers discovered the mysterious find around 6 a.m. on a tree stump at 1,350 meters above sea level and alerted the emergency services. The Libelle police helicopter searched the area – but without results.
Cash receipt and groceries
It is unclear whether the backpack was lost or intentionally discarded. Likewise, whether it has been lying next to the path for a long time. The contents at least suggest that it contained a receipt from a supermarket in Prague from April 13th – before the last onset of winter. A change receipt shows that the owner of the backpack also exchanged 597 Czech crowns for 25.45 euros around lunchtime on April 13th. According to police, the other contents consisted mainly of food carefully packed in Tupperware and wrapped in cellophane. A pair of men’s shorts in size L and a charging cable were also found.
Police are asking for information
There is currently no further information about the owner of the backpack. Anyone who can provide information about the backpack or a possible missing person is asked to contact the Gmunden police station on 059-133-4100.
