Major operation on Monday afternoon in the municipality of Garsten (Steyr-Land district): Under the operational keyword ““Fire in the roof area”, eight fire departments (Garsten, Oberdambach, Saass, Sand, Schwaming, St. Ulrich bei Steyr, Dietach, Aschach an der Steyr) and four trains from the Steyr fire department responded to a concrete production plant. The alarm was received around 2 p.m. As we approached, thick, black clouds of smoke could be seen coming from one of the company’s towers. Alert level two has been declared.

Although the flames were quickly brought under control through an initial internal attack and an external attack using the aerial rescue device, the fire also affected the conveyor system within the factory. The conveyor belt had to be removed from the shaft, which took an enormous amount of time. Therefore, additional fire departments were alerted to provide support.

A total of 151 forces were deployed. The Garsten fire department announced in the evening that 14 respiratory protection teams were deployed and over 30 breathing air bottles were filled by the FF-Steyr technical platoon. The fire was finally called out in the early evening, and shortly after 7 p.m. the operation was over for all fire departments. No one was injured, but the property damage is expected to be extensive. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but an investigation is underway.
