Two minors aged five and 15 were crammed unsecured in the trunk, the German federal police said on Monday. Border police officers stopped the young driver on Sunday morning on Autobahn 95 near Penzberg in the Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau.
No papers and no residence permit
According to the German Federal Police, the six Syrians had no entry documents and no residence permit for Germany. Four of them were sitting in the back seat of the car without a seat belt. A seven-year-old girl was among them, said a spokesman for the German Federal Police. After being freed from the trunk, the 15-year-old had to vomit, it was said.
Driver in custody
The driver who allegedly dragged the six people was taken into custody. According to his own statement, he was in debt and picked up the Syrians in Slovenia and brought them across the border in order to earn some extra money. According to the officials, the 15-year-old boy was traveling without relatives or acquaintances and was handed over to the care of the youth welfare office. The five other Syrians were taken to a reception center for refugees in Munich.
