The people of Mühlviertel put up a tree for the people of Linz: G’wiat and g’schepst, i.e. felled and peeled, the tree from Niederwaldkirchen is waiting to be transported to the state capital. The Mühlviertel spruce is set up there as a maypole.

The 65-year-old spruce tree, which comes from Hubert and Hedwig Lindorfer’s forest, was felled by rural youth and the fire department and arrives in Linz this morning. The maypole in front of the music theater will be decorated with red and white ribbons and garlands. This is followed by a concert by the Niederwaldkirchen Music Association near the Volksgarten, before the celebratory procession moves through the city towards the main square at 3:15 p.m. At 5 p.m. the tree will be officially handed over by Niederwaldkirchner Mayor Harald Haselmayr to Mayor Klaus Luger.
Gourmet market on the main square
The people of Niederwaldkirchen not only bring the maypole, but also culinary diversity to Linz: from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a gourmet market in which direct marketers from the Upper Mühlviertel take part. There is also live music. “I am pleased about the impressive tree donation from Niederwaldkirchen. This year’s maypole celebration on the main square also underlines the connection between our city and the people in the Upper Mühlviertel, many of whom come to Linz every day to work,” says Mayor Luger.
