A resident lived in the Diakonie residential community “Unlock 4 all” in Braunau for 25 years. He lived with six other people with disabilities, found a home and was able to be as independent as possible. Then his leg had to be amputated. A stroke of fate that was hard enough, but which also meant that the 45-year-old had to move out. The older townhouse in which the Diakonie set up the shared apartment is not suitable for people with physical disabilities because it is simply not barrier-free.
Amag employee Rita Barotsch was so affected by this fate that she decided to submit the project “Barrier-free bathroom/toilet for the shared apartment in Braunau” for the Amag Social Prize. Amag awards this prize every year and motivates its employees to submit suggestions to support social initiatives or institutions. The jury, which also includes OÖNachrichten, selects the winner. This year the choice clearly fell on Rita Barotsch’s project. Amag will support the renovation of the bathroom and toilets with 10,000 euros.
Other projects also supported
Not only is the social award winning project supported, other ideas submitted by AMAG employees were also well received by the jury and are financially supported by the aluminum company. Lebenshilfe Braunau, which wants to brew craft beer in the future and sell it in the activity shop, can look forward to it. Amag will support the purchase of stainless steel barrels and a brewing kettle. More therapy hours for curative riding and the visit of a therapy dog to classes at the Pestalozzi School are also supported. Amag also supports the Braunau women’s shelter with an outdoor play area for the children of clients affected by violence.
The Amag overseas employees also submitted. The Chiemgauer Lebenshilfe Werkstadt Traunstein Süd will receive new outdoor seating from Amag. At a celebration at Salzburg’s Mönchsberg last week, not only was the Amag social prize winner honored, but innovation prizes and awards for the best CIP groups were also presented.
Celebration with motivational speech
Previously, extreme cyclist Christoph Strasser gave a lecture to motivate people to set their goals correctly and not give up until they are achieved. He has to know how to do this: He has won the Race Across America six times. He was the fastest person to cover almost 5,000 kilometers on his bike and crossed America from one coast to the other in around eight days. You cycle 23 hours a day! Strasser was also the first to ride 1,000 kilometers in 24 hours on a conventional bicycle.
