The German Leo Martin studied criminal science and then worked for a large German secret service for ten years. His mission was to recruit and lead shop stewards in the organized crime milieu. To do this, he had to be able to build trust within a short time and under difficult conditions and win others over to himself and his goals. His tools: professional people skills and communication.
So what can a manager learn about communication from a former secret agent? “A good leader is like a secret agent: we deal with people who we want to lead and retain. “You have to be a top communicator for that,” says ex-secret agent and executive coach Leo Martin in the “Club der Cleveren” podcast. It’s about clarity in communication. This is easy in good times. “It gets exciting when we are in conflict,” says the German, who, as a secret agent in the criminal milieu, had to get so-called confidants on his side.
