The wife of José “Pepe” Mujica, Lucia Topolansky, He spoke about the former president’s health and reaffirmed that the tumor in his esophagus has not metastasized and that the treatment will be radiotherapy, the option that best suits the politician’s needs due to his pre-existing illnesses.

Topolansky spoke about Mujica’s diagnosis, which arose from a suspicion arising from the former president’s constant generation of reflux. “As one is old, one sniffs out things. Since he came with some reflux problems and those things that appear, we suspect, and we immediately went to medicine, which is the best; You don’t have to go to the Internet, you have to go to medicine. It was in the range of possibilities, and now we have to be up for the fight,” the former vice president explained to Channel 10.

Regarding the results, the politician recalled a conversation with Tabaré Vázquez where they highlighted the importance of the patient being in the mood to fight. “Once, quite a while ago, in a conversation with Tabare Vazquez we were talking about patient’s mood : when the patient is on the fighting side, willing to fight, there is an enormous advantage; “When the patient gets down on the floor, it’s much more difficult,” he commented.

On the other hand, he reaffirmed what Mujica said this Wednesday regarding the state of his illness since the former president did not suffer metastasis, so the treatment would be radiotherapy. However, he announced that this Friday they will do another exam to see the exact point where he would have to attack the radiotherapy and, from there, he would begin the treatment immediately.

Regarding the place where the treatment would begin, the former vice president assured that it will be in a clinic that refers to Casmu and that the treatment will last a month and a half with sessions from Monday to Friday. In relation to offers from other countries to go for treatment, like her husband, Topolansky ruled out that option: “At the Uruguayan medicine “We should not underestimate it,” he said.

The decision to undergo radiotherapy is adjusted to the pre-existing immunological disease that the former president has suffered for more than 20 years and that complicates a complete treatment for his illness.
