When he was born, little Jonas from Alkoven was diagnosed with a serious heart defect – the Fallot tetralogy. When, after a heart operation, the worst finally seemed to be over, his parents Tina and Patrick Füreder were confronted with another terrifying news: When trying to remove the ventilation tube, Jonas suddenly cramped? The bronchi and his brain were no longer supplied with oxygen.
The doctors tried several times to reanimate the boy. The little one fought his way back to life, but the lack of oxygen had already caused major damage to the brain.
A long, rocky road began for Tina Füreder and her husband Patrick (29), who as an electrician has since been the sole breadwinner of the family of four. Mama Tina (40) takes care of her little son every day: “Jonas will never be like a normal child, but I want to support his development as best as possible. I will try everything for him.”
Once a week, a physiotherapist comes to the Füreder family’s house, who uses various exercises to develop the two-year-old’s motor skills. Jonas is supposed to train his breathing with a speech therapist, and from January he will be attending the communication department to communicate with the outside world. “I notice that Jonas is curious and wants to know what life has to offer,” says his mom.
In order to alleviate the family’s financial worries, the OÖN-Christkindl is helping with a donation this year. This money is to be used to pay the high therapy and rehabilitation costs for Jonas.
