Because of the rare CHARGE syndrome, little Fynn’s body has many weak points. But the biggest one is his heart. The ninth operation took place in the spring, and it’s only a matter of time before the tenth, says his mother Sylvia Eichmeir. “We hope the current valve will last a few years.” The single parent from Vöcklabruck is busy looking after her seven and a half year old son around the clock. The boy is deaf and blind on the left side, cannot walk or crawl and therefore needs a wheelchair and therapies such as physio or speech therapy.
In addition, regular checkups in the hospital are necessary because of his serious heart defect. The 33-year-old mother is therefore dependent on a car. The problem: Fynn’s new wheelchair no longer fitted in the car. She also had the bills for aids and therapies in the back of her mind when she contacted the OÖN-Christkindl. A few days later, the single mom was able to look forward to an early Christmas present: Hans Eidenhammer from Innviertel supports the family with a larger car. In his retirement, the car mechanic made it his business to make life easier for families with disabled children by whipping up used cars and giving them away. Sylvia Eichmeir was overwhelmed: “I can’t put into words how grateful I am,” she says.
