Great anticipation: A special therapy for a special child

Great anticipation: A special therapy for a special child

You are only in your mid-twenties and have already overcome many hurdles: Magdalena H. * and her long-term partner. The two became parents seven years ago. But everything went differently than hoped. Her son was born in the 22nd week of pregnancy with only 550 grams. It was the beginning of a long ordeal. The little boy suffered a cerebral haemorrhage after his birth. Contrary to the expectations of the doctors, he survived, but suffered severe damage. Countless operations and dramatic incidents followed. “We faced the decision several times whether we would let our child die or live,” his mom remembers.

Happy despite limitations

Your baby struggled into life – and is now a cheerful student and big brother. “He always wakes up with a laugh and shows us anew every day that we have done the right thing,” says Magdalena H. Without aids, the family cannot cope with everyday life. The seven-year-old is severely impaired physically and mentally, cannot talk or walk, and is artificially fed. His special needs also require regular therapies. Although the care and commuting takes a lot of strength and time from the young parents, only one thing counts for them: “That we have each other. That is the greatest happiness for us,” says the 26-year-old mother. She wants to enable her son to lead a largely normal life, but this is associated with high costs. Thanks to the Christkindl donations, the family is one step closer to their great wish: a special therapy for their special child. “We have long dreamed of dolphin therapy on the Mediterranean,” says the Innviertel woman, who looks to the New Year with gratitude and great anticipation rather than worry.
