From Monday, May 13th, Union Gurten will begin renovating the square. A new lawn will be sown on the main field of the Park21 Arena and on the training ground. Furthermore, the irrigation system at the training ground is being expanded. Much to the delight of Gurten’s coach Peter Madritsch: “A very important step for the whole club. It’s no secret that our pitches are not the best. To be honest, it’s no wonder for me, because they are used by several teams almost all year round “It’s a real challenge. I and the team are really happy about the renovation of the pitch,” says Madritsch. The costs of modernizing the pitches are shared between the municipality of Gurten, the state of Upper Austria, the Sportunion Upper Austria and the club. Due to the renovation work, the Gurtners have to play five of their last six games of the season away from home. Training will take place at the sports facility in Utzenaich in the coming weeks.
Before the machines roll out in Gurten, the Upper Austria derby and top game against second place in the table, SPG Wallern/St. Marienkirchen, It will be a game between the second best offensive department in the league – Wallern has scored 56 goals so far – against the best defense in the Central Regional League – Gurten has only conceded 19 goals in the course of the championship so far. Gurten’s coach Peter Madritsch expects an extremely offensive opponent in the derby. “Wallern/St. Marienkirchen stands for pure offensive football. We can’t afford any mistakes in defense. They have the quality to take advantage of every mistake in an ice-cold manner,” says Madritsch.
Gurten’s coach reported positive things about captain Thomas Reiter’s recovery. The 31-year-old fought his way back after several months of suffering (back problems) and celebrated his comeback to the first team last Friday in the 1-0 defeat against LASK. He came on as a substitute in the final stages of the game. “Thomas is taking small but important steps in the right direction. In addition to the short stint, he has already played two games in our second team. I assume that he will soon find his old strength again,” says Madritsch.

Coach Julian Baumgartner’s team will be visiting SC Weiz at 7 p.m. Not an easy task, as the Styrians have only lost one of their last five games. The Young Vikings, on the other hand, have been waiting for complete success for four games.
