Within a very short time, the people of Wolfern organized a new tree. “The boys felled it and peeled it, our girls made new wreaths and tied the garlands. All the rural youth helped,” says Wolfern’s mayor Karl Mayr. The tree is more beautiful than before, he said in an interview with OÖNachrichten. It was promised that the new tree should be able to be put up again on Friday at 5 p.m.

And so far everything went according to plan: the Mitter company was on site at 5 p.m. with a crane. And the tree, which was brought back on time by the rural youth, was put up. At 29 meters, it towers over the old, stolen tree by a full five meters. “That’s the custom – if a maypole is damaged or destroyed during an action, it has to be replaced with a tree of at least the same value,” explains Hannah Ploner from the Landjugend Wolfern to the OÖNachrichten in an interview. The magnificent tree is 100 years old. “Hopefully it’s now clear that there was certainly no malicious intent behind it.”
