It is a fine ensemble that actor Fritz Egger, director of the Meggenhofen Theater, has brought together for the new in-house production “The Alpine King and the Misanthrope” by Ferdinand Raimund. Rehearsals have been going on in the theater on Walfischgasse in Vienna since Monday, before the final rehearsals will take place on the stage in the magnificent Kircheckerhof in the Hausruckgemeinde from May 25th. The premiere is on June 7th.
“There are some people who – one could say – are already part of the Meggenhofen ensemble, such as Reini Moritz, who played Boandlkramer, Peter Scholz, with whom I was on stage with India, or Felix Stichmann from Krenglbach, who played in Broken Krug and Brandner Kaspar,” says Egger, who grew up in Grieskirchen. Nina Hartmann will also be there as Lieschen and Brigitte Karner as the wife of Rappelkopf, whom Egger himself embodies.
Professionals and amateurs on stage
About the content: The main character in Raimund’s magical fairy tale has lost faith in humanity and falls into the delusion that someone is trying to kill him. He seeks protection and peace in nature. Now the Alpine King comes into play; he holds a mirror up to Rappelkopf to see the truth.
Amateurs or “passion actors,” as Egger calls them, will also be seen again in smaller roles.
Egger is starting his fifth season. When it began in Meggenhofen in 2019, five performances of Karl Schönherr’s play “Erde” were scheduled. “Everyone was worried about whether we would fill them up. This year we have twelve performances with the Alpine King, 80 percent of the tickets are already gone,” says Egger. In the past, theatergoers would have waited for the premiere and then bought tickets. “Now they trust us and are buying in advance,” says director Egger happily.
Some of the guest performances are already sold out, such as those by “Rosenheim-Cop” Max Müller and Philipp Hochmair, who is performing in Meggenhofen with his program “Der Hagestolz”. You should also hurry if you want to get tickets for the concert with Ina Regen (June 30th) or for the reading with the Burgtheater stars Michael Maertens and Marie-Luise Stockinger (July 7th).
