The record champions, who did not have the best line-up, lost the blow at third-placed VfB Stuttgart 3-1 on Saturday and are now only two points ahead with two games to go. Borussia Dortmund moved within three points of fourth-place RB Leipzig with a 5-1 win against FC Augsburg. VfL Wolfsburg also won thanks to a goal from Patrick Wimmer.
The 22-year-old offensive player was successful for the second time this season in a 3-0 home win against relegated Darmstadt. The twelfth-placed Wolfsburg are now almost certain to stay in the league. This is also a great achievement of the Styrian coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, who took over the club in mid-March and achieved four wins in six games. Werder Bremen is one point ahead of VfL in tenth place after a 2-2 draw against 13th Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Four days after the 2-2 draw in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid, Munich had six new players in the starting line-up. In addition to the ailing defender Matthijs de Ligt, the rested Jamal Musiala was also missing from the squad. ÖFB team players Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Noussair Mazraoui all sat on the bench at the beginning. Goretzka had to play in the 17th minute due to an injury to Raphael Guerreiro.
Bavaria in slow motion
Bayern felt like they were in slow motion ahead of the second leg on Wednesday in Madrid, and not much was coming together on offense before the break. Stuttgart were more dangerous and also took the lead through right-back Leonidas Stergiou (29′). The guests only managed to equalize thanks to the help of the referee team. Stuttgart’s Waldemar Anton hit Serge Gnabry lightly in the face with his hand in the penalty area, but to the surprise of many, the penalty was not taken back by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Harry Kane didn’t miss the chance from the spot and scored for the 36th time in the league in the 32nd game. The English team striker has scored 44 times in 44 competitive games. After the restart, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team managed the result, but not successfully. Stuttgart substitutes made the deserved home win perfect, first Jeong Woo-yeong (83′) scored with a header, then Silas Katompa Mvumpa (93′), who had previously provided the assist. Laimer was not used.
Goal fireworks from Dortmund
Dortmund, another Champions League semi-finalist, delivered a fireworks display of goals, albeit thanks to poor defensive work from Augsburg. Youssoufa Moukoko (4th, 29th), Donyell Malen (20th) and Marco Reus (34th) made everything clear before the break. Felix Nmecha (64th) ensured the final point. Ruben Vargas (32nd) had meanwhile made cosmetic results. Dortmund also gave some important players a break, such as Marcel Sabitzer, who was only substituted in the 73rd minute, or the other offensive aces Niclas Füllkrug and Jadon Sancho.
Wolfsburg’s Wimmer put a poor clearance with Julian Justvan’s heel into the corner (8th). Jonas Wind (11th) and Vaclav Cerny (93rd) then added further goals. The lead over the relegation place initially grew to nine points. The Bremen team worked their way into the top ten. Nick Woltemade shone with a brace (45th, 65th). But it didn’t come to anything as Robin Hack (8th) and Florian Neuhaus (91st/penalty) scored. Bremen’s captain Marco Friedl got the ball in his hand during the action, causing the penalty. The Tyrolean played through, as did Romano Schmid, and Stefan Lainer was substituted for Gladbach in the 71st minute. Maximilian Wöber was missing injured.
