Six-year-old Leon suffers from Baraitser-Winter syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disorder with only around 100 diagnosed cases worldwide. In addition to the burden on the family, this also results in very high costs.
The purchase of a therapy bed alone costs around 15,000 euros. Rugia Ried was able to contribute part of the financing of such a bed with the proceeds of the annual “Rugen Advent” at Stelzhamerplatz in Ried. “As a Catholic middle school association in Ried, we see it as one of our tasks to follow the principles of Christian social teaching,” says chairman Bernhard Navratil. Together with activist chairman David Karer, Navratil presented 1000 euros to little Leon’s family. The six-year-old is also supported by the Kiwanis Club Ried, which brought him into contact with Rugia.
