The tennis world number one from Poland defeated defending champion Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus, who is second in the WTA ranking, in a fight that lasted 3:11 hours after defending three match points with 7:5.4:6.7:6 (7 ). At 5:6 and in the tiebreak, Sabalenka couldn’t take advantage of her chances. For Swiatek it was her first title in the Spanish capital.
In addition to the 1,000 WTA points, Swiatek can look forward to prize money of 963,225 euros. It was her 20th WTA title overall or the third of the season. She also won the 1000cc tournaments in Doha and Indian Wells.
