More than 5.67 million people have died with or from the virus since it was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
The USA has the highest numbers of infections, followed by India, Brazil, Great Britain and Russia. The United States also has the highest number of deaths. Brazil, Russia, India and Mexico follow in the next places.
Meanwhile, US health officials have suffered at least 230,456 new infections in 24 hours. This was the result of a Reuters count based on official data. At least 3,288 other people died with or from the coronavirus. In total, more than 51.85 million cases of infection have been detected since the beginning of the pandemic, and at least 818,073 people have died. The USA, where around 330 million people live, has the highest number of infections and deaths in the world. The omicron mutant has already displaced the delta mutant as the most common virus variant in the country.
In Russia, health officials recorded 998 more coronavirus-related deaths within 24 hours. In addition, 24,703 people have been shown to have contracted the corona virus. Worldwide, Russia ranks fifth in the number of infections and fourth in the number of deaths.
