A successful spring market ended yesterday in Urfahr.

The stallholders and ride operators couldn’t have wished for better weather at the end of the spring market. In summer temperatures and bright sunshine, tens of thousands more came to the fairgrounds in Urfahr today.

Probably due to the mostly fantastic weather over the past nine days, the hunger and thirst of the around 580,000 visitors were great. 108,000 pints of beer, 42,000 lemonades, 4,000 portions of grilled chicken and 72,000 portions of bratwurst were sold in the market’s large marquee alone.

“After nine varied and intensive days, the Urfahran market has drawn a successful conclusion,” says market officer and city councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer (VP). After the market is before the market: There will be a reunion in Urfahr at the autumn market from September 28th to October 6th.

Two focus controls

While the 270 market people were happy about a successful and high-turnover spring market, busy days ended for the police on the fairgrounds. The executive branch was called in twice for priority checks in addition to the already increased patrol service. During numerous identity checks, small amounts of drugs (mostly marijuana) were seized.

This time, young market visitors in particular were the focus of the police. In more than 20 cases, officers took cigarettes from young fairgoers. One teenager was reported for having a fake ID, another received a penalty notice for urinating next to police officers.

A norm-clarification discussion was held with another young man who had been handling a toy gun. Two minors who were reported missing were picked up by law enforcement and returned to their accommodation.
