Escape games are trendy. In Wilhering you can now indulge in playful adventures in the open air. “Secret of the Roman Treasure” is the name of the outdoor escape game for the whole family, which turns the municipality of Wilhering into a play area. The players become treasure hunters.
The story of the interactive puzzle rally takes players back to the time when the Romans camped in Wilhering. When they moved on again, they are said to have left behind a legendary treasure that was never found. Starting from the monastery park, clues and puzzles lead the game participants to the newly designed Roman playground near the Danube ferry and back to the monastery. The game is played using a free mobile app. All you need is a smartphone with an internet connection. The tickets cost 39.90 euros and are available on the operator’s website www.outdoorescape.at. You need one ticket per cell phone, but you can play as many with one cell phone.
“Both the story and the complexity of the puzzles are aimed at families,” says Michael Weberberger from M&M Events, the operator of OutdoorEscape.at. Adult supervision is recommended for children under 13 years of age.
The community and the monastery are actively involved
The initiative for the new Outdoor Escape came from the municipality, which wants to offer families the opportunity to rediscover Wilhering in a playful way, says Managing Mayor Christina Mühlböck-Oppolzer enthusiastically. “This game combines history, fun and outdoor exercise.”
Abbot Reinhold Dessl, head of Wilhering Abbey, was also immediately on board. “We are pleased to be part of this exciting project. The game also takes participants into the heart of our monastery, where at the end there is even a little surprise waiting for them in the café. It is a pleasure to have history accessible in this interactive and modern way close.”
Excellent offer
For its contribution to the regional tourism offering, M&M Events, as the operator of OutdoorEscape.at, has already been awarded the Regionality Award for Tourism.
“Secret of the Roman Treasure” is not the organizer’s first outdoor escape. Around 35 more can already be played in Upper Austria, Salzburg, Lower Austria, Vienna, Styria, Tyrol, Carinthia and Bavaria.
For example, you can pass the entrance exam for the “Magic Academy” in downtown Linz. At Lake Attersee, children help the “Ring of the Sea Elves” regain its protective power. In Bad Ischl there is a criminal case called “The Robbery of the Crown Jewels” and “Sissi and the Petrification Magic” is a magical story for the whole family.
At Mondsee, on the other hand, the code of a teleporter has to be deciphered in order to bring a scientist back from a trip into the future in “Time Machine from Mondsee”.
