The market town of Bad Goisern wants to combine its two middle schools – which are only one kilometer apart as the crow flies – in a new building. It was still unclear at which of the two locations the new building would be built. In a special meeting last week, the local council agreed on the location of Middle School 2. In a secret vote, 19 of 36 elected representatives spoke in favor of this solution. The location leads to lower costs and it is easier to work with the music school there, the supporters argued.
The Education Directorate would have merged the two schools in organizational terms in the coming years anyway. “We can use the current location of the World Heritage Middle School for further projects,” says Mayor Leopold Schilcher (SPÖ).
Once the location has been decided, preliminary planning for the new school can begin. The local council will decide on the tender in the autumn. Arrivals and departures for the new school also need to be planned. A separate parent stop is also being discussed.
“We work in close coordination with the state’s education directorate throughout the entire process,” says SPÖ local councilor Mario Haas. After the specific project has been developed, the state government must agree to finance the new Goisern middle school.
