Gurten in second place, red lantern for young Vikings

Offensive player Jakob Kreuzer scored for Union Gurten.

With a 2-0 home win in the Upper Austria duel against the Wallern/St. Marienkirchen, Union Gurten took second place in the Central Regional League. Jakob Kreuzer and Simon Schnaitter scored the goals for coach Peter Madritsch’s team in front of around 500 visitors.

Gurtner’s impressive record in the spring season so far: seven wins, two draws and only one defeat. Union Gurten has to play all of its last five games of the season away due to the field renovations. Next Friday we’re going to Gleisdorf.

The situation is completely different with the Young Vikings, SV Ried’s second team. The team trained by Julian Baumgartner had to admit defeat 3:5 in Weiz after a 3:2 lead. In the last four games, the Vikings only got one point and conceded no fewer than 15 goals.

Staying in the league will be a real feat for the Rieders in the remaining five rounds. The Young Vikings are bottom of the table with 24 points, but the saving bank is only three points away.
