Romina Celeste was arrested this Monday by the Police hours after admitting that the complaint against the presidential candidate of the Frente Amplio (FA) Yamandú Orsi for sexual abuse was false.
The nationalist militant, who resigned from National Party (PN) due to the false complaint scandal, she was arrested mid-morning at a relative’s house in the area of Battle Park, Telemundo reported. Electronic devices were also seized at the home.
Romina Celeste was wanted by Justice and there was an arrest warrant and border closure against her. After her arrest she was transferred to the City of the Coast Prosecutor’s Officeled by prosecutor Sandra Fleitas.
The militantconfirmed on Friday night that the criminal complaint filed in March by a trans woman against Yamandu Orsi, for an alleged assault, was false. “It is a complaint and a false testimony that was given to the Police,” she said.
“The seriousness of all this here is the false complaint against Orsi and the false testimony he made at a police station; the false report that this person made. You always have to show your face, because when you make a mistake you have to admit it,” Papasso concluded.
Orsi’s complaint
In the midst of the news of Celeste’s arrest, the pre-candidate for the Wide Front He held a press conference where he assured that his lawyers made the corresponding complaints after the statements of the alleged victim, Romina Papasso. “From this finding it is clear that we must go to the core. Without giving names, the candidate stressed that it is his lawyers who are in charge of the complaints and that he did not know that Celeste had been detained.
