As local authorities announced on Monday, the victims were a man and a woman who were vacationing in the Ardèche region. The Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of two Austrian citizens in France in the evening.
The couple’s boat, an inflatable canoe, got into a whirlpool on Sunday afternoon and overturned. The man was wearing a helmet with the inscription of an Austrian canyoning club. No further details were known at the moment.
