At the beginning of June, beach flair returns to Wels’s Minoritenplatz: the company “deinImpuls” opens the “City Beach” for the third time. The company transports 200 tons of sand to the city center in order to build a sand sports field for beach volleyball, beach soccer, yoga and boccia, as well as a children’s playground and a catering area.
“We are making the offer free for the first time this year in order to attract even more people,” says deinImpuls managing director Lisa Niederschick. The fees from previous years are no longer applicable, but the organizers continue to ask for reservations. Groups, such as companies or clubs, can book places in advance. The necessary equipment is also available on site.
Deaf National Championships
The program is already well filled: even before the start of the City Beach, the public viewing for the European Championship semi-finals will take place on the clay court. The official opening will take place on July 12th with the final of the company sports league in beach volleyball. The Deaf National Championships will take place on July 13th. The city’s summer holiday program includes several children’s courses in volleyball and beach soccer on the clay court.
Peter Jungreithmair, Managing Director of Wels City Marketing, speaks of a successful project: “The Minoritenplatz is therefore ideally used as a place for celebrations and events.” The city provides the space, deinImpuls pays for the operation itself. “We are therefore still looking for sponsors,” explains Niederschick.
Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) is also pleased with the third edition of the City Beach: “There is a pure holiday feeling in the city center again.”
