The Google Pixel 8a in the color “Bay”

It was only towards the end of last year that Google brought its smartphones onto the Austrian market for the first time with the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro. Now the Pixel 8a is the latest device from Google’s device family. It is a slimmed down and cheaper version of the top devices.

The smartphone will be available in Austrian retailers in four different colors from Tuesday. Priced at €549 for the 128GB version, it’s €250 cheaper than the Pixel 8 and €550 cheaper than the Pixel 8 Pro. With 256 GB of storage, the Pixel 8a costs 609 euros.

The chip used is the Tensor G3 – the same processor that is also in the other two Pixel 8 smartphones. AI features such as “Circle to Search” or photo editing functions, which are familiar from more expensive devices, are also on board. Google also chooses the tried and tested strategy when it comes to providing updates: there are updates for the operating system and security updates for seven years.

Google also emphasizes durability when it comes to the material: the frame and back of the device are made of aluminum, and the 6.1-inch display is protected by robust Gorilla Glass. The smartphone is resistant to water and dust with an IP67 certification. The battery has a capacity of almost 4500 mAh.
