New climate blockades in Vienna: 150 arrests this year

650 arrests last year

Last year, the police made an arrest in one of these actions 650 times, and 1,500 reports were filed. Arrests and charges were usually made due to violations of the assembly law or road traffic regulations. According to police information, adhesive blockades are completed on average within 45 minutes, some actions after just minutes – or they were prevented entirely.

Mini van placed on road

During today’s blockade in the area of ​​the southeast bypass, a vehicle was also placed on one of the lanes in the northbound direction at the Hansson curve, the police reported. According to their own statements, the activists had chained themselves to a pipe that was embedded in concrete in the mini-van:
