OpenAI wants to compete with Google: ChatGPT maker is working on an AI search engine

The American Sam Altman and the Californian company OpenAI have had a turbulent week.

This was reported by two people familiar with it on Thursday (local time). But nothing has been officially announced yet. The announcement could come a day before the start of Google’s annual conference on Tuesday, where the tech giant is expected to unveil a range of AI-related products. OpenAI declined to comment.

Bloomberg and The Information previously reported that Microsoft-backed OpenAI is working on a search engine that could potentially compete with Alphabet’s Google and Perplexity, a well-funded AI search startup. According to media reports, OpenAI’s new search engine is an extension of its flagship product ChatGPT and is intended to enable ChatGPT to obtain direct information from the web and incorporate quotes.a
